If you own a side lot, we ask that you consider your neighbors and the look of the Llanerch neighborhood before you sell your lot to a developer.  One option might be to split the lot and sell half to your next-door neighbor so that the open space is maintained.  We will also be exploring ways that owners of side lots can be compensated if they designate the lot permanently as open space.  There are many ways to honor the neighborhood that we all love.

Attend our Events

The Llanerch Advocacy Group hosted a very successful Llovely Llanerch Historic Homes Tour in April 2015.

Upcoming events include an open house at the Llanerch School on Sunday, October 25th from 12-2:00 pm and a Neighborhood Yard Sale on Saturday, October 31st from 9:00am - 2:00pm.  We are looking for donations for the yard sale and our bake table.

We will be organizing additional educational events and fundraisers over the next few years.  Please come to support preservation in Llanerch.

Plant a Tree

The special look of our neighborhood is about more than homes.  The grandeur of large trees lining the streets and the curb appeal of lovely gardens also make Llanerch beautiful.  We will be partnering with Haverford Township Tree Tenders on the replacement of street trees throughout Llanerch, as many of our older trees have been removed or are in decline.  If you would like a tree planted in your front yard, contact Jeanne Angell at angellsrus@comcast.net.

Protect Open Space

Even though Llanerch is a mature community, in the past 20 years there have been more than 15 new houses built here, and this pace has accelerated in recent years.  Many of these homes are built on what had been side yards for 100 years, and some on lots where an old home was torn down.  The loss of open space and trees alone has begun to change the character of Llanerch, as where was once a gracious lawn we now have a new house.

Fortunately, many of these side lots have deed restrictions, and those deed restrictions are protected through our Township ordinance.

Protect Your Home from Demolition

First and foremost, we want to protect Llanerch homes from demolition.  The easiest way to do this is for Llanerch residents to ask to have their houses placed on the Historic Resource Survey list which is maintained by the Haverford Township Historic Commission.  Once on the Historic Resource Survey, your home would be forever protected from demolition unless the board of commissioners granted a waiver (for example, if your home suffered a serious fire that made it too difficult to salvage).

The Llanerch Advocacy Group plans to host information sessions this year about the Historic Resource Survey and the process for proposing that your house be included on the list.
